Drugs,Creativity and Glamour- By Doreen Soans

Drugs,Creativity and Glamour
- by Doreen Soans

We’ve heard of Rock stars, Pop Stars, Actors, Directors, Painters, and Musicians etc coping up with drugs and rehabs . Can this somehow on a subconscious level be creating a subtle and sometimes a strong connection or association between drugs and creativity.
A few friends have experienced heightened desire to pen their thoughts and feelings after the use of either alcohol or marijuana. Yes! I, Thank you for sharing it with me. It gave me a new subject to ponder upon and learn.
Tons of research has been done on the life of celebrities who died young due to drug abuse and Overdose.  There is one name that keeps coming in to my mind, Jim Morrison.  Psychiatrist and Drug researchers confirm that his usage of drugs only made it difficult for him to write and perform. He was using drugs as self medication to get over physical and emotional pain.
Yes! All you post tripping budding artists, your drug usage will surely help you to strum that creative cord and get new ideas. However are you ready for a life of increased drug dependency and diminishing creative or performing ability?
So before all you aspiring artist(s) pick up the habit or the damn excuse it’s important that you do your research.
I believe everyone is creative. My logic to that is; we have reproductive organs if we can make babies then we are definitely very creative in some or the other field. We are socially trained only to look at few forms of work as belonging to the creative field. Creating a network of people to socialize or do business is also an art. Even those who work with numbers and excel sheets are creating something  that the painter can’t create with ease. Everyone is blessed with creativity we just have to give ourselves a chance. Like a seed cannot sprout without soil and water similarly the seed of creativity also needs an environment that can help it grow and flourish.
Every drug has it effects and ill effects. Using it frequently reduce its ability to create the same high. The chances of dependency will increase but the supply of new ideas will decline.
When celebrities make it big in life we are just seeing that one hugely glorified part of their life like the flashy cars, the super homes the glamorous life styles.  We ignore the fact that they are humans too who are as vulnerable as you and me. They live on a planet where everything is larger than life, failed albums, unsuccessful relationships; failure to deliver to expectations of self and others, dealing with public criticism can all be overwhelming to them too.  Some of them get help from professionals some of them take help from drugs and some from both.  When it comes to emotions we are all equally vulnerable.
Drugs and addiction is a part of every section of the society, the rich are laced and the poor are foiled. The society loves to talk about the two extremes and the middle one live bottled up. Addiction is a social concern that needs to be looked at.
Its time we disassociate drugs with glamour and fashion, fame and success.  This association may create a pool of curiosity that may consume many ignorant aspirants.
Looking thin and maintaining a certain size is a big challenge for a lot of people, but a bigger problem is when drugs are used as a solution to that problem.  So many people suffer from the misconception that people who are on drugs lose weight quickly. Well if that’s how serious someone is about losing weight then I think they haven’t heard of the repercussions of drugs yet. There is a thin line between using and misusing anything however when it comes to some of the substances of abuse using is the first time is as good as surrendering to it. Know your drug before you choose it. Know your reason to do it.
If these substances were really so inspiring than they should have kept all those young exceptionally talented people inspired to live a little longer to stay a little longer on the stage called life.
No intoxicant is sold with the slogan “zindagi ke saath bhi zindagi ke baadsss bhi” they usually talk about being the king of good times the irony is will the drunken king be good for long?
